Fillet
The Fillet is a headband in the Middle Ages. Fillet is made of fabric, and the crown and hoop, wreath of precious metals. Fillet has been known since ancient times and this strip of fabric fixed the hairstyle. In the early Middle Ages, hoops or ribbons were popular that fixed the veil or hairstyle. In the 12th – 14th centuries, especially in the 13th century, Fillet becomes popular, which most often fixes Barbette (we have a post). Barbette is a strip of fabric under the chin. Fillet was varied in style: a thin strip-ribbon; a wide strip with decorative trim frills; a high cylinder, which is sometimes called Touret or Turret. In the 13th century in Spain, a similar headdress with abundant trim becomes popular. The Fillet crown eventually closed and turned into a pillbox hat or toque. Queens and princesses often wore crowns together with a fillet.
