1920s Men’s fashion

A year-by-year timeline of men’s style during a decade shaped by postwar change, modern leisure, and the growing influence of youth culture. The early 1920s continued the narrow, fitted silhouette of the previous decade: three-piece suits, high-waisted trousers, long jackets, overcoats, bowler hats, homburgs, and straw boaters. As the decade progressed, tailoring became more relaxed and trousers gradually widened, culminating in the fashionable Oxford bags of the mid-to-late 1920s. Sportswear and informal clothing gained importance, including knitted sweaters, plus fours, blazers, soft caps, and clothes designed for golf, motoring, and seaside holidays. By 1929, men’s fashion had developed a broader, looser silhouette that anticipated the styles of the 1930s.
