Robe à Tassel
The robe à tassel was a type of overdress fashionable in Europe in the 15th century. This style is sometimes referred to as a Burgundian gown, although this term is not entirely accurate, as 15th-century Burgundian fashion included a variety of gown styles.
The exact origin of the name “tassel” is unclear. Some fashion historians suggest that it refers to the fur-trimmed neckline, while others argue that the silhouette of the dress — with its high waist and voluminous skirt — resembles the shape of a tassel.
The robe à tassel was worn as part of a layered ensemble. A linen chemise or smock was worn next to the skin, with a kirtle (underdress) over it. A separate piece was used to cover the undergarments visible in the deep V-shaped neckline, and a Partlet covered the upper chest and neckline area.
The main feature of the gown was its deep V-shaped neckline, which was secured at the waist with a belt. The sleeves were narrow, with cuffs extending to the middle of the palm. The neckline, cuffs, and often the hem were trimmed with fur.

Бургундская мода XV века имела различные формы платьев. Точное определение названия Тассель («Кисточка») найти сложно, одни историки моды утверждают, что так называется вырез платья, отороченный мехом, другие – что форма платья с завышенной талией и объемной нижней частью напоминает форму кисточки.
Роб а Тассель – это верхнее платье, под ним носится льняная сорочка (шемиз), Киртл (Kirtle), Котарди (Cotehardie) или нижнее платье. Основным отличием платья был V-образный вырез горловины, который фиксировался на талии ремнём.
