Lamé
The Lamé is a type of fabric woven or knit with thin ribbons of metallic fiber usually gold or silver, but sometimes copper, in color.
Fabric with metallic fibers has existed since ancient times and has been a symbol of greatness. Such a fabric was very expensive, difficult to manufacture, difficult to sew and therefore was not popular. Royal clothes, ceremonial clothes and religious clothes were sewn from this fabric.
Lamé’s popularity comes in the 1920s. In the 1930s, the Hollywood Stars make lamé very popular in evening wear. Gradually, the popularity of lamé began to decline, but at present, fashion houses offer outfits from lamé in their collections. Initially, natural fabrics were used as the basis of the fabric: silk, wool or cotton.
The Lamé has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include: thinness, two-sided fabric, keeps the shape of the folds well. And the disadvantages: difficult to sew, the body does not breathe, very impractical, difficult to clean.
